Font Research

ALL AGES DEMO

This font Style speaks for the sound of the magazine that a producer would create. The font is slightly distorted which suggests a loud and distorted music vibe. The Font can be linked with the Rock genre as the music produced by rock bands usually use distorted guitars thoughout their songs. The font assists the mode of address very well as it speaks to the audience by protraying the genre of the magazine. The font is very bold and would be easily seen by someone looking to buy a magazine. It is created using a san serif font which enforces its boldness. I would use this font for my magazine as I feel it relates to the Genre really well and looks like a professional Font style for a magazine. If i was to use this Font i would also use one letter as an article Kicker to draw the audience into reading the article.

Rock it
This font, also like the previous font style portrayes the sound of the music. However in contrast a 'splatterd' effect is used on this font style, this conveys that nothing is neat about the music genre for example punk, all the music is loud, messy and fast with changing guitar riffs. The genre i would associate this font style with would be punk due to the style of their music. The mode of adress to the audience is like the sound analysis it connotes.

a dripping marker
I would associate this font style with the R&B genre. My reasoning for this is that it looks like a graffiti written font and often graffiti can be sterotypically linked with R&B genre and Yobish behaviour. The font is not particually bold and probably wouldnt stand out on a magazine cover.

Pieces NFI

This font sytle connotes the music genre of Heavy Metal. Often heavy Metal Music can be related to scary themes such as blood, mosters and piercings. This dripping effect the font has shows how these themes are protayed through the font and speaks to the audience of the genre.

This short survey I created focuses on the specific genre I am using and has helped me establish certain elements i will use within my magazine. The results have shown that Ed Sheeran and the Arctic Monkeys will be the main two artists i base my artists on for the magazine, i will also use The Kooks alongside these two artsists. I have come to the final decision of the colour scheme i will use for my magazine which is the Red/Black/White colour scheme which relates to the genre well. Finally i asked the public what festival i should accosiciate the Magazine with. From the collated results i will use Glastonbury and V-festival.

Survey Analysis and Target Audience Justification

Survey Justification
Throughout the process of developing a survey and having it completed by the public I am able to come to a conclusion about several of elements I will incorporate within my magazine. The feedback I have been given by the public has helped me to justify reasons for why my magazine is going to be how it is and also whom I am aiming the magazine at. Choosing the correct target audience for a new magazine is critical as you need to know what will sell, what the public are interested in and if there is a gap in the market for that type of magazine. I feel that my survey was of a relevant length and has helped me gain critical information I will need to produce my music magazine.

Target Audience Justification
I have decided not to focus on a specific gender within my target audience and have decided to establish the genre and use the people that enjoy the genre of music, boys and girls to be able to relate to the magazine. The genre I have chosen to be the main theme of my magazine is the Indie/Rock genre these were the two most popular choices collated on my survey and is a genre that I can also relate to as I enjoy that area of music. I am aiming my product at 16-20 year olds. Ironically this was also the most popular choice on my survey and as I am within that age bracket I can also relate to my product as I feel I have a good understanding of what 16-20 like to see within a magazine. I have also established throughout research of this genre that this age bracket can be linked with the indie/rock music. Other elements that I include within my magazine will intervene with the target audience for example various font styles, and colours that symbolise various things related to the genre of music.

Conventions of my Magazine
From the collated responses I have from my survey I can establish what elements I am most likely to include within my magazine. My most popular response for what the public wants to see in magazine was pictures and text.  However all magazine include pictures and text so I have also decided to take the responses on board and included an interview within the magazine. I have also come to the conclusion of the colour scheme I will be using for my magazine, this is the White/Black/Red colour scheme, not only was it the most popular response on my survey but also seems to be a widely used colour scheme within other indie magazines for example NME.  The colours also relate to the genre very well as the red within the colour scheme connotes ENVY and REBELLION which are words that can be linked with the chosen genre. I will use a wide range of pictures and shot types and will and will produce a shot plan within my planning of the magazine.
